North central Wisconsin gets its first taste of winter as up to three inches of snow fell in the region on Wednesday. The National Weather Service says it will disappear today (Thursday) almost as fast as it came, with rain possible in central and eastern Wisconsin. Highs are expected to range in the upper 30s in the north, to the 50s in southern sections. Chief Lake in Sawyer County had close to three inches of snow Wednesday, while Gile in Iron County had two-point-three inches and much of the state’s midsection had 1-2 inches. Also, the Weather Service says La Crosse had its fourth wettest October on record — about six inches of rain, well above the two-point-two inches of liquid precipitation that La Crosse normally receives for the month.
