Wisconsin continues to make more cheese, but the state’s latest increase is again behind the national growth rate. The U-S-D-A says the Badger State made almost 272-million pounds of cheese in September — two-point-two-percent more than the same month last year, but a half-percent behind the national jump of two-point-seven. Wisconsin pumped out about six-percent more Cheddar in September, but the increase for Italian cheese was a meager one-percent. The state remains the national leader, as it continues to produce about one quarter of the nation’s cheese. California remains a distant second.
