After the Sturgeon Bay Fire Chief issued an order to demolish the 116 year old granary, there has been an outpouring of support to keep it standing. During the City Council meeting yesterday, dozens of Sturgeon Bay residents rallied around the landmark, in an attempt to save it. George Evenson, former president of the Door County Historical Society, stated “I don’t think it’s too far gone. We haven’t had a real good analysis of that, to determine that it’s too far gone.” The council ruled that contractors must complete another analysis to determine if it is possible to save the building, and delayed a decision on the building’s fate for 60 days.
