River Falls Republican Sheila Harsdorf had not left her state Senate seat before the first candidate got in line as her possible replacement. Governor Scott Walker appointed Harsdorf at mid-morning as the state’s new agriculture secretary. Just two hours later, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said G-O-P Representative Adam Jarchow of Balsam Lake changed his paperwork with state election officials to show that he plans to run for Harsdorf’s Senate seat instead of re-election to his current seat in the lower house. Another candidate who’s being mentioned, River Falls Representative Shannon Zimmerman, had not changed his candidate registration by midday. Harsdorf leaves the Legislature at 5 P-M today and will become the new agriculture secretary on Monday. A date has not been announced for a special election for Harsdorf’s Senate post.
