Rubick Municipal Athletic Field in Manitowoc will be in for a major makeover in 2018. The School Board voted to approve recommendations from the finance & budget and building & grounds committees to begin the $1.468 million project. Plans include the installation of a synthetic turf on the football field, New visitors bleachers, lighting, and sound system, all in time for the 2018 fall sports seasons. Superintendent of Schools, Mark Holzman told us at Seehafer News, that “This has been many years coming. We have had lots of community support. We are so thankful to our fundraising group that raised over $500,000 to help contribute to the project. Our kids are going to have many great opportunities in multiple athletic fields, and many uses for the community as well.” Up to $400,000 in non-referendum money from a 2013 school district fund will subsidize the renovation. Fundraising for the total project will continue while a committee awaits word on two significant grant requests early next year. Bids will be sought in the near future and it’s expected the first shovel in the ground will happen on May 24th, following girls soccer and track & field seasons.
