A 27-year-old southern Wisconsin woman has died in a two vehicle crash in which her five-month-old baby escaped injury. Melissa Whitten of Orfordville died at the scene of Thursday evening’s mishap west of Beloit on Highway 213 at Rock County Trunk “Q.” The baby was checked out at a hospital, and officials say she’s now with relatives — and the truck driver, a 66-year-old man from South Beloit, Illinois, was treated at the hospital and later released. The crash caused a power outage nearby, but Alliant Energy said only one customer in the area was still in the dark as of mid morning. The State Patrol’s reconstruction unit is helping Beloit Town Police and Rock County sheriff’s deputies determine what happened and why.
