The Wisconsin men’s basketball team loses its first game of the season, 80-70 at home to 15th ranked Xavier in the Big Ten/Big East Gavitt Games. The Badgers led by two with more than two and a half minutes left — but Xavier guard Trevon Bluiett then made two free throws and back to back three pointers to put the Musketeers in front for good. Bluiett scored 25 points for Xavier, which improved to 3-0 and avenged an N-C-A-A loss to the U-W in March of 2016 — and Wisconsin junior Ethan Happ scored 21 and went above one-thousand points for his career. Tonight (Friday), the U-W Milwaukee men host Concordia/Saint Paul, and U-W Green Bay hosts Division Three Lakeland. The Milwaukee women play Houston in New Orleans in the consolation bracket of the Preseason W-N-I-T tournament — and in Division Two, the Parkside men face Saint Mary’s of Texas in San Antonio.
