Traffic on 1-43 just outside the Green Bay City limits was slowed by a pair of grass fires yesterday. According to Bellevue Fire Battalion Chief Stefan Schaefer, the fires were burning about 500 feet apart near Greenbrier Road. He went on to say that firefighters dealt with low visibility and it took them about 30 minutes to knock down the wind-blown flames and it took another half-hour to wet down the hot spots along the ditch. The right lane of I-43 northbound at Brown County Highway JJ was reportedly closed for about an hour for the fire response. The cause of the fires remains under investigation.
