Fourteen candidates have filed for three open seats in the Wisconsin Legislature. Voters will choose replacements January 16th for Senate Republican Sheila Harsforf of River Falls who’s now the state agriculture secretary — Assembly Democrat Cory Mason who’s the new mayor of Racine — and Assembly Republican Bob Gannon of West Bend who died in October. Both parties will have primaries December 19th for the Senate post, where G-O-P representatives Adam Jarchow and Shannon Zimmerman are seeking promotions to the upper house. Republican Ken Rimer and Libertarian Brian Corriea filed fewer than the 400 signatures required for the Senate seat — but officials could not say if they would still get a chance to provide more signatures through a technicality. There’s also a G-O-P primary for Gannon’s seat with four Republicans filing including Spencer Zimmerman — who ran as a third party candidate for Paul Ryan’s House seat a year ago — and two Democrats filed to replace Mason.
