Despite all the attempts to save the historic building, the Sturgeon Bay City Council voted yesterday to dismantle the cities historical granary. The city will take proposals on how to repurpose the 116-year-old building, and will accept bids from contractors to dismantle the Granary. Earlier this month, the council voted to delay demolition in favor of a structural analysis. This motion does away with that vote. Even an anonymous donation of $1.25 million contingent on the city and the historical society working together to find a long-term solution for the building could not save the historical landmark. In August, the Granary was listed on the Wisconsin Registry of Historical Places.
