Environmentalists say a new settlement of a state pollution lawsuit is “paltry” compared to what other firms paid in previous administrations. The Madison Kipp Corporation will pay 350-thousand dollars to settle allegations that it let too many toxins settle below its Madison factory, contaminating groundwater. The state Justice Department says the agreement reflects seven-million dollars the company has paid in private lawsuits and eight-million for environmental cleanups with another two-million on the way. Also, the aluminum die casting plant can delay removing P-C-Bs that remain below the factory, and wait five years before paying the first installment of its fine. Pollution fines have dropped during Scott Walker’s governorship, and Madison lawyer Carl Sinderbrand tells the Wisconsin State Journal that “good deeds and cost reimbursements” were not allowed as penalties in past administrations.
