A former Appleton veteran is accused of fraud, after he allegedly took V-A disability benefits for a military related accident — and then used the money to buy and run a Packer bar in Costa Rica. A federal grand jury has handed down fraud charges against 53-year-old Daniel Kososki, who’s accused of making false statements to the V-A to get 150-thousand dollars in fraudulent benefits. According to the charges, Kososki served in the Army from 1982 through ’87, was injured as a passenger in a car crash, filed for unemployability benefits in 2006, bought the Coconutz Sports Bar and Grill in Costa Rica in ’08 or ’09 — and managed the place from 2009 through last year though he told the V-A he never worked there. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the state rejected a real estate seller’s license in 2005, soon after he was convicted on misdemeanor counts of theft and making threats on the phone.
