The need for emergency repairs to a storm water main will result in a full closure of Mariners Trail opposite the Roosevelt Avenue/Memorial Drive exit, starting on Monday, December 4 and continuing for most of the week. A four-foot diameter storm water main, discharging to Lake Michigan, runs beneath the trail at this location.
Some settling of the trail in this area was observed in mid-November. and inspection of that storm water main showed it to be collapsing in the area beneath the trail and east to its outfall at Lake Michigan. The portion of the storm water main beneath Highway 42 does not appear to be failing.
On Monday, County highway crews will remove guardrail from the area to facilitate excavation work on the highway shoulder. A contractor for the City will excavate and remove the failing pipe segments and replace them on Tuesday-Wednesday.
At this time, the City expects for the work to be completed by Friday, December 8.
The City of Two Rivers is working with the Manitowoc County Highway Department and Wisconsin Department of Transportation to address this matter.
