Legislation introduced by Republican lawmakers would shorten the statute of limitations for civil lawsuits. Judges would be allowed to limit discovery and choose the attorneys for class action lawsuits. Under the bill, the deadline for making liability or fraud claims would be reduced from six years, to three. It’s called a business-friendly measure aimed at reducing litigation costs.
