The vacant land where seven-thousand people once worked in Janesville could be put to good use again. A Missouri-based re-development company has worked out a deal with General Motors to take over the closed assembly plant. G-M started making vehicles there in 1919 and ceased production 90 years later. Commercial Development Company out of St. Louis has worked out similar deals to take over four other G-M plants in Ohio, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Iowa.
(A Janesville press conference is being held today at 1:00 p-m to formally announce plans for the facility.)
