In Sheboygan County, a proposal was brought forth to rebuild an electric transmission line. The biggest issue? The project may result in the “incidental taking” of a rare snake. Incidental take refers to the unintentional loss of individual endangered or threatened animals or plants that does not put the overall population of the species at risk. As a part of the project, ecotechnical boring would have to be conducted, which may inadvertently affect the Eastern ribbonsnake, which have been confirmed in the area. The conservation measures to minimize the adverse effect on the endangered species will be incorporated into the proposed Incidental Take Permit.
