Racine County is looking at the idea of installing a demerit point system for alcohol retailers. City Attorney Scott Letteney first brought up the idea last summer. The point system would identify retail liquor license holders who repeatedly violate state laws or city ordinances. The point system would guide local officials when they decide whether to suspend or revoke a liquor license. So far, it has received a mixed response. To implement the system, a board would be named to recommend discipline when a business receives too many demerit points.
