The Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention at the University of Wisconsin will be looking for smokers to take part in a new study. The Madison school has received a seven-million-dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health. People joining the study will get a three-month supply of Chantix pills, coaching and some will also get nicotine patches. They will receive 260-dollars for completing the study requirements. U-W researchers say the lung damage from years of smoking will start to improve six-to-12 months after a patient puts the cigarettes aside.
