Manitowoc’s Common Council’s “Committee of the Whole” discussed the city’s blight program last night which was presented by Mayor Justin Nickels at the January city council meeting.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Kadow oversees the city’s division of life safety department. Seehafer News asked him if blight is a major problem.
Kadow adds that each targeted structure is gone over with a fine- tooth comb.
Mayor Nickels along with Fire Chief Todd Blaser have toured, reached out and researched several models around the state to help develop this program.
Nickels says they’ll be targeting the southern areas such as Dewey, Calumet and Washington Streets in 2018.
There’s not necessarily a percentage of properties they are going after, just a concentrated effort to clean up Manitowoc. For more information call 686-6940.
