Federal officials have suspended Milwaukee’s troubled program for reducing lead in homes. The U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a stop work order Monday. The move comes after HUD reviewed findings of a probe detailing problems with the Milwaukee Health Department’s lead poisoning prevention efforts. The federal agency conducted a monitoring visit last week. Officials say the review found many of the same issues identified in a recently-released report, including concerns over overall grant performance, program management and documentation.
