Allegations made on social media against a teacher at Madison East High School have led him to retire sooner than he had planned. The Madison Metropolitan School District says Gary Calhoun had already told his bosses of plans to retire at the end of the year. A series of allegations made online over the last two weeks led him to step aside sooner than that. The district hasn’t revealed what the allegations were. School district leaders say they are taking the allegations “very seriously” and are following district protocol in dealing with them. A long-term substitute teacher will handle Calhoun’s classes until the end of the term.
