Manitowoc County Rotary clubs has wrapped up their first ever Car on Ice fundraiser. On January 30th a 1989 Ford Mini-Van was placed on the ice at the Manitowoc Marina. 30 days passed with the van on top of the ice when finally! Splash! Warm weather caused the ice to thin and the van took a plunge on February 28th at 5:19 am.
295 people made 624 guesses for when the car would break through the ice.
Out of the 624 guesses there were 18 submissions by 13 different people for February 28th. Contestant Joe DiRaimondo, with a guess of 4:01am guessed the time that was closest to the time the van actually plunged through the ice. When told of his winning guess Joe said, “I never expected to win, I just wanted to contribute to a local service club fundraiser.” Joe is donating the $1,000 top prize to the Capitol Civic Centre’s Act Two Campaign. “This helps them be able to continue with renovations to prepare for the Capitol’s second century.”
Two second place prizes were awarded. Winning the prize for picking the proper day is Lisa Nelson, who guessed February 28 twice. Winning the random drawing of all entries was Robert Gahl. Each second place winner will receive a Bahamas Cruise for two valued at $630.
Seehafer Broadcasting is very excited to have been a sponsor of this fundraiser along with, Living Water Digital, Action Realty, Cato Country Auto, Fricke Printing, Sign Me Up, PJ’s Automotive, Shoreline Credit Union, Manitowoc Marina, Two Rivers Clothing Company
Don’t worry, the car was stripped of all possible contaminants or pollutants to make as little impact on the marina as possible.
