Jury selection should be completed later today in a Winnebago County murder trial. If convicted, defendant Brian Flatoff could receive a sentence of up to 300 years in prison. Police officers shot Michael Funk to death during a standoff and shootout in December 2015 at Eagle Nation Cycles in Neenah. Flatoff is accused of taking hostages that day and Funk was accidentally killed by officers when he broke free. Under the law, Flatoff can be charged with the crimes which led to Funk’s death. Flatoff says he is not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect. He is representing himself at the trial.
