An estimated one-thousand employees — current and former — of the Diocese of La Crosse will be affected by the termination of their pension plan. Bishop William Patrick Callahan made the announcement this week. The plan had been frozen 11 years ago after being under-funded for years. Catholic school teachers, rectory workers, custodians, secretaries and other employees in 19 west-central Wisconsin counties are impacted. Monthly payments will continue until recipients get one final, lump-sum payment — probably this summer.
