The penalty phase is underway today (Monday) in Winnebago County Circuit Court for Brian Flatoff. The jury found him guilty of all 14 charges connected to a 2015 motorcycle shop hostage situation and standoff last week. The incident in Neenah resulted in the death of one of the hostages, Michael Funk. Flatoff had gone to Eagle Nation Cycles with the intention of killing his former friend, Vance Dalton, because he thought Dalton had stolen his motorcycle. Flatoff took three people hostage when Dalton wasn’t there and engaged law enforcement officers in a shootout. Now, the jury has to determine Flatoff’s mental condition when he committed the crimes.
