A Winnebago County jury has determined Brian Flatoff wasn’t mentally ill three years ago when he took hostages at a motorcycle shop and fired shots at police during a standoff. The same jury had convicted Flatoff of all 14 charges last week. He is scheduled for sentencing May 16th. Flatoff represented himself during the trial, but asked for an attorney the day before the verdict was returned. That attorney made a motion for a mistrial — which was denied. Flatoff was found guilty of felony murder, conspiracy to commit murder and two counts of attempted homicide for shooting at Neenah police.
