A public prayer vigil will be held tonight for a 17-year-old Reedsville teenager who’s still missing after being pulled under by a rip current while swimming in Alabama. A Facebook post indicates that the vigil for Jevon Lemke will begin at 7 pm at the Gathering Place in Reedsville, located at 720 Manitowoc Street.
Jevon, a student in the Reedsville Public School District, was vacationing with his family when he was swept under water while swimming near Fort Morgan on Sunday afternoon. Search efforts began just after 2pm and continued until it was too dark to see. The search resumed on Monday but the U.S. Coast Guard and law enforcement had multiple search efforts hampered by fog and rough waters. Firefighters continued their search on the shoreline today but there’s been no sign of Jevon.
Reedsville Public School District Superintendent Antonio Butturini issued a statement which partially read “First and foremost our hearts—thoughts and prayers go out to the Lemke family as they deal with this terrible situation. Our number one priority has been and will be to the Lemke family and the students who are affected in the Reedsville School District.”
