Unemployment rates rose slightly last month in both Manitowoc and Manitowoc County. Numbers released this afternoon by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development show a jobless rate of three-point-seven-percent for the city in February— up from three-point-six percent in January but down significantly from last February’s rate of five percent. A similar number of three-point-seven percent were unemployed in Manitowoc County—an increase of two-tenths of a percent from January’s number of three-and-a-half percent—however down from February’s 2017 jobless number of 4.8%. Preliminary February 2018 rates decreased in the state’s 32 largest municipalities and in 58 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties compared to February 2017. The release of last month’s local rates follow the release of Business of Labor Statistics monthly estimates showing that Wisconsin’s statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate reached an all-time low of two-point-nine percent.
