A 48-year old Manitowoc man is confined to the County Jail following his arrest overnight for a brutal assault of his girlfriend. Manitowoc police lieutenant Jason Erickson says officers were called about 12:45 this morning to a Southside residence. Where a 48-year old woman was reportedly strangled, punched and cut with an axe. Police were told by the victim that the suspect is her live-in boyfriend, and she had been held-against-her-will in a nearby garage. She stated while the suspect was verbally threatening her with the axe, he cut her, resulting in a non-life threatening neck wound. At one point, he allegedly used an ‘electric grinder’ on the victim, resulting in cuts to her ankle. Officers arrested the 48-year old man on the property after deploying an electronic control device and pepper spray. He’s in jail on charges of false imprisonment, recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, felony bail-jumping. And a probation hold.
