Preliminary hearings are scheduled next week for a 17-year-old Manitowoc male facing two separate sets of charges on suspicion of stealing a running vehicle from a gas station last week. City charges against Christopher M. Hauschultz are fleeing and eluding an officer, operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent and possession of drug paraphernalia. County infractions are eluding and fleeing an officer and recklessly endangering safety.
Police say that Hauschultz took the car that was running from a gas station on North Eighth Street during the early morning hours of April 19th. Officers located it travelling on Menasha Avenue and followed him heading westbound on Waldo. The suspect ignored the officer’s activated squad lights exceeding speeds of more than 60 miles-per-hour eventually crashing in the area of 15th and Wollmer streets. A short time later a K-9 officer located Hauschultz hiding under cardboard at a nearby garage. He remains in the County Jail in lieu of $2500 cash and is scheduled to return to court next Wednesday afternoon at 2:30.
