Milwaukee police say officers were dealing with a man experiencing a mental health emergency for more than 10 hours Wednesday into Thursday. Officers initially responded to a shots-fired call. An armed man was mad at family members and had fired one shot inside his apartment. Nobody was hit. Crisis negotiators tried to convince him to surrender, but the man quit responding. When tactical team members entered the apartment, a brief shootout developed, with nobody hit. The man then surrendered and was taken into custody. He wasn’t injured, but he was taken to a local hospital to have his mental health evaluated.
