The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating the death of a Columbus man who held the police in a standoff for nearly eight hours Sunday. A 9-1-1 call had been made about a domestic violence situation at about 6:00 A-M. The victim ran to safety at a neighbor’s house and the alleged attacker refused to come out for hours. When police fired non-lethal gas into the home and entered, they found the man’s dead body. State investigators say it doesn’t look like the death was caused by the police action, although witnesses say dozens of shots were fired into the home. The victim of the domestic violence was treated and released at a nearby hospital.
