A pair of students at Manitowoc’s Washington Junior High School received several awards in the Wisconsin School Music Association’s Student Composition Project during a special awards program. The awards were granted at UW Whitewater earlier this month in the Middle School Division for students in grades five through eight. Joey O’Connor nabbed all five awards including first place for Instrumental Jazz for Night Alone on the New York Metro, Instrumental Solo for Trumpet Serenade, and Instrumental Ensemble for Murder on the Orient Express, which was also named the Division Winner. He also was named the first place winner in the Collaborative Ensemble for Great Journey along with Cody LaFond. There were a total of 26 submissions in the Middle School Division.
