The 2018 Manitowoc County Hazardous Waste Clean Sweep programs will be held Saturday, May 19 for households and Friday, May 18th for farms and qualifying businesses. The program gives residents the opportunity to dispose of hazardous chemicals for free. Accepted items include pesticides, cleaning products, oil and lead based paints, automotive chemicals and mercury. A good way to see if the item is hazardous is to check for warning labels such as Danger, Warning, Caution, Poison, Combustible, Flammable, Corrosive, and Toxic. It should be noted that latex paints will not be accepted. Since the Clean Sweep started in 1985, households and farms in Manitowoc County have brought in a total of 979,839 pounds of waste chemicals. The collection will occur at the Manitowoc County Highway Shop, 3500 Highway 310 in Manitowoc. Businesses and farms must pre-register by calling 683-4333 by May 10. Help make 2018 the “Million Pound Year” for the Manitowoc County Clean Sweep!
