Manitowoc Lutheran & Valders Girls Fastpitch Softball teams were able to SWEEP their respective doubleheaders last evening. In the Big East Conference: the Lancers defeated St. Mary Catholic by scores of 4-3 in ‘8’ innings in the opener and 9-to-2 in the nightcap. Megan Schetter earned the win in Game-1 & Abby Hiller went 3-for-4 with a double & 3-RBI’s. She also scored the game-winner on Schetter’s RBI single in the bottom of the 8th. The 2nd game was CALLED, due to darkness after ‘6’-innings. Winning pitcher, Lexi LeClair, tossed a 3-hitter & allowed NO earned runs to go with 10 strikeouts. Hiller again paced the Lancers’ offense with 3-hits, including 2-doubles & 3-runs scored as Lutheran improves to 5-and-3 in conference, 5-&-4 overall.
Meanwhile, Valders took a pair from EWC foe, Sheboygan Falls, 4-to-3 and then 15-1. In the opener, the Vikings scored 4-runs in the bottom of the 2nd and held on for the win. Karly Erickson pitched a 2-hitter and Rachel Dietrich led the ‘offensive’ attack by going 3-for-3 with a run scored. In the game-2’ victory, Valders plated ‘10’ runs in the top of the 7th to break it open…Callie Behnke & Kendra Hammel both homered, with Behnke’s big-fly a grand-slam. Hammel also walked 4 times. Jenna Evenson pitched a complete-game allowing just 5-hits no walks & 6-strikeouts.
The Vikings (9-&-1, 4-&-0 in league) will meet ‘Roncalli’ tomorrow NIGHT at 7:00..at Vietnam Memorial Park in Two Rivers. The game WILL be broadcast on WOMT…beginning at 6:45.
In Boys Baseball last night..Manitowoc Lincoln saw its’ 4-game winning streak end, with a 9-5 loss to Green Bay Southwest at Municipal Field. The Ships trailed 3-nothing until scoring ‘5’ times in the bottom of the 5th. The Trojans (now 4-&-0) retook the lead with a 4-spot in the 6th & 2-insurance runs in the 7th. Chase Kersten suffered the loss in relief….Tanner Hadler went 2-for-4 including a 2-run double for Lincoln, which is scheduled to host Sheboygan South tomorrow.
In Boys Tennis…visiting Manitowoc Lincoln was edged by Bay Port 4-to-3. The Ships, 2-&-1 in Conference duals, received wins from Aiden Newberg at #1 singles, ‘2’ singles by Jed Robertson and #1 doubles from Nick Manis & Jack Rotter.
And, in Girls Soccer De Pere defeated Manitowoc Lincoln 2-nil in a competitive match at Ron-Rubick Municipal Athletic Field. Olivia Sauer had 8-saves in goal for the Ships, now 0-2-and-1 in the FRCC.
