A former standout player for the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program says boycotting a game was discussed by the players in 2016. Nigel Hayes says he suggested refusing to play in a game against Syracuse November 29th. At the time, Hayes said, if even one team member was against the idea, they wouldn’t do it. Now, he says he thinks the players who said no then would change their minds. Hayes is among the named plaintiffs in two lawsuits challenging the current system which limits the funding college players can receive for things like tuition and fees, room and board, books and other incidental costs. Hayes says if things aren’t changed, the day will come when players do refuse to play in protest.
