The U-S Environmental Protection Agency is accepting Wisconsin’s story and limiting the areas which will be facing tougher smog regulation. The Walker administration and state business owners argued pollution problems in areas along Lake Michigan are actually caused by smog from Illinois and northern parts of Indiana. Environmental groups worry that the E-P-A relaxing the rules won’t protect the air quality in eastern Wisconsin. The federal agency found parts of Milwaukee, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Door, Kenosha and Manitowoc counties were in violation of a new, tougher ozone standard. Those counties, plus Waukesha and Washington counties, have been exempted from standards enacted while President Barack Obama was in office.
