The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction won’t give Superior schools a pass for canceling classes while an oil refinery was burning last month. The result is the district is adding 13 minutes to the end of each school day, starting today (Monday) to make up the class time missed during the evacuation. It was the third cancellation of the school year after snow days were taken February 20th and April 16th. When black smoke was filling the air more than 25-hundred students from seven schools were bused to the AMSOIL facility for safety. The University of Wisconsin-Superior is the planned site for such actions, but it was in the evacuation zone this time.
