With an extended winter followed by a dumping of rain, farmers with crops in the field are struggling to get things going. According to the Wisconsin Crop Progress & Condition report, spring tillage was only 30% completed as of May 6th, which is two days behind last year. Statewide, oats had the highest percentage in the ground, with 29% which is eight days behind last year. Corn and soybeans are significantly behind with only 15 percent of corn planting complete and a miniscule 5% of soybeans in the ground. The rain did however help green up winter wheat and hay fields, which had to plant late due to the blizzard last month.
