Crews in Manitowoc are working to compete repairs in time for the SS Badgers arrival on Friday.
On April 14th and 15th, high waves from winter storm Evelyn damaged the loading platform and approach area for the SS Badger. The counterweight on the docking platform has been repaired and the parking lot will be ready for traffic, although, vehicles will drive over gravel to reach the platform. Permanent paving is expected to be completed by next week. Future repairs may include a new wall to create a buffer space for the ferry to dock, and new larger rock barrier to better protect the platform from the surf and waves of Lake Michigan.
The historic 410-foot SS Badger transports passengers and vehicles between Ludington Michigan and Manitowoc Wisconsin from mid-May through mid-October.
