For the first time in years, the annual Sun Fair won’t be held on Historic Mitchell Street in Milwaukee. Organizers say they can’t afford to provide the needed security. As last year’s festival was wrapping up, several fights broke out. Backers say if they can’t provide enough safety and security, they won’t hold the fair. Cutbacks to the operations budget forced the Historic Mitchell Street Business Improve District-4 to make the difficult decision to cancel. District officials are calling this “just a break,” saying the Sun Fair will return next year.
