Community members urged to donate blood this Memorial Day weekend
Particular need for O negative blood donations – limited edition “hero” t-shirt to all donors
WHAT: As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend – and take time to remember the sacrifices of the heroes that secured our freedom – BloodCenter of Wisconsin is also asking the community to donate as a special tribute to our veterans and those currently serving in the military.
A limited edition “hero” t-shirt will be given to all attempting donors May 25–June 8
WHY: BloodCenter of Wisconsin is facing an urgent type O negative blood need heading into the Memorial Day holiday weekend. They are at less than a one day supply, which could have a devastating effect if massive transfusion situations occur.
As the Memorial Day weekend kicks off the summer season, it is a particularly difficult time for blood donations, and supplies often run dangerously low when needed most. There’s increased risk for injuries and accidents in the summer months – so each donation counts more than ever. Some trauma situations can require up to 30 units of blood or more.
WHERE: BloodCenter of Wisconsin donor centers and community blood drives.
Saturday, May 26: Regular donor center hours at all locations
Sunday, May 27: Regular Sunday platelet hours at Greenfield, Waukesha and West Bend donor centers
Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day): Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Waukesha and Greenfield donor centers are open 6 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Tuesday, May 29: Regular donor center hours at all locations
