The Wisconsin Elections Commission has agreed to lift restrictions on overseas ballots in order to avoid a legal showdown with the U-S Department of Justice. D-O-J had warned it was prepared to file a suit because this state didn’t let temporary overseas voters obtain ballots electronically. Wisconsin also didn’t make downloadable backup ballots available — in direct conflict with federal election laws. A legislative bill to make the changes failed in April so the elections commission will enter a consent decree with the feds.
