Update 5/29/18: The name of the victim of Saturday morning’s motorcycle vs. truck accident in Manitowoc has been released. Manitowoc County Coroner Curtis Green has identified him as 16 year-old Christopher Barlament of Valders. Police say that Barlament was travelling near the 3800 Calumet Avenue about 10:30am when he collided with the truck. He was transported to Holy Family Memorial Hosptial where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Barlament died from neck and head injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The identity of the driver of the truck has not been released and the person was not hurt. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors and a reconstruction of the accident was performed by the state patrol.
On Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:30 AM, responders from the Manitowoc Police Department and Manitowoc Fire and Rescue responded to a report of a pickup truck versus a motorcycle accident in the 3800 block of Calumet Avenue. Witnesses told officers upon their arrival that a 2002 GMC pickup truck, being operated by a 70- year-old male from Valders, was west bound on Calumet Avenue, while a 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle, operated by a 16-year-old male, also from Valders, was east bound in the same block of Calumet Avenue, when the pickup truck turned left into the path of the motorcycle. The 16-year-old motorcyclist was taken to Holy Family Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The operator of the pickup truck was uninjured. The Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with a reconstruction of the accident scene, while the Manitowoc Police Department drone was used to take video and still photographs of the scene to assist with the investigation. The investigation into the accident is on-going and additional information may be release by the Manitowoc Police Department when it is warranted.
