With Memorial Day on the horizon, we prepare to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in service of our nation. Here are some of the nearby events taking place to honor veterans of past and present.
Manitowoc:
Manitowoc’s Memorial Day Parade will start at 9 a.m. Monday at the corner of South Eighth and Washington streets. The route is Eighth Street north to Huron Street, then left onto Michigan Avenue and concluding at North 18th Street by Citizen Park. The post-parade ceremony is at the Veterans Memorial. In the event of rain, there will be no parade and the ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Citizen Park building.
AMVETS Post 99 will be holding their Annual Memorial Day
Picnic on Monday in the park at 4310 Conroe Street in Manitowoc. The public is invited. Food and beverages will available from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm. Live music from 1:30-5:30. There will also be raffles, silent auction and childrens games.
Two Rivers:
Memorial Day activities in Two Rivers will begin at 8:45 a.m. Monday with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Soldiers Monument in Central Memorial Park. A parade will begin at 9 a.m. at 18th and Washington streets and will proceed north on Washington, west on 22nd Street and north on Forest Avenue to Calvary/Pioneers Rest Cemetery.
Mishicot:
Memorial Day Parade — Community parade at noon on Main Street. Service at Mishicot Cemetery led by VFW Post 7753. VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary Luncheon at Mishicot VFW Clubhouse with entertainment by Deb Mueller and Rod Scheuer. Open house at Mishicot Historical Museum from 1 to 3 p.m.
Chilton:
Chilton: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony — Parade starts at 9 a.m. at city hall, proceeds to Hillside Cemetery, 724 N. Madison St. Followed by Memorial Day Program at Hillside Cemetery.
Green Bay area:
De Pere: Celebrate De Pere’s Fireworks on the Fox — Approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 27th
Allouez: Heritage Hill State Park – A Soldier’s Remembrance – 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Admission $5/person ($1 goes to veterans’ causes chosen by American Legion Post 11), members free. 2640 S. Webster Avenue, Allouez.
De Pere: Kiwanis Memorial Day Parade – Starts at 10 a.m. Parade begins at West De Pere High School, crosses Claude Allouez Bridge, and ends at Broadway and Cass.
Green Bay: Green Bay Botanical Gardens “Memorial Day at the Garden” – 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. Free admission to military personnel and veterans. 2600 Larson Rd., Green Bay.
Sheboygan area:
Plymouth: Memorial Day Parade — Starts at 10 a.m. on Mill Street downtown, followed by Memorial Day ceremonies at Union Cemetery at the end of the procession.
Sheboygan: Memorial Day Parade – Starts at 9 a.m at N. 7th Street and Center Avenue. The parade ends at Fountain Park, followed immediately by a Memorial Day ceremony then brat fry. More than 40 organizations.
