When the new head of the Wisconsin Department of Corrections takes over next month, she will be the third new leader for the state agency in the last four years. Secretary Jon Litscher has announced he will retire in June from the position he assumed in 2016. Litscher will be replaced by Deputy Secretary Cathy Jess. She becomes the first woman to lead the state Corrections Department. She will be in charge while the Lincoln Hills School for Boys and Copper Lake School for Girls are closed. The federal government has been investigating allegations of inmate abuse and violence against staff at the youth prison facility.
