The installation of a median cable barrier is part of a $1.6-million dollar improvement to a 6-mile stretch of I-43 in southern Manitowoc County & northern Sheboygan County. The Green Bay Office of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced the safety upgrade, approved by Governor Scott Walker. The interstate project from Wilson Lima Road to Fischer Creek is set to begin next Monday with completion eyed for the end of August. Along with the cable barrier other improvements include grading & shaping of the median installing a high-friction polymer overlay on the I-43/County Double-E overpass, and various bridge surface & concrete masonry deck repairs. The 6.2 mile work zone will remain open to at least one lane of traffic at all times. And, motorists will encounter some short-term single-lane closures this summer.
