Saturday begins a new season for the ‘Miracle League of the Lakeshore.’ Here’s commissioner and steering committee chair Laura Ziemer:
Opening Day at Miracles Park on Manitowoc’s southside begins with the ceremony Saturday Morning at 9:00. Ziemer said ‘normally’ they would have season-opening ceremonies & maybe a Home-Run Derby with games to follow during the week.
The players are those afflicted with physical and intellectual disabilities. “It really is an inspiration to watch them”, says Ziemer.
100 players under the age of 19 are assigned to teams this summer, as well as a NEW- over 19-league with 22 players.
The Commissioner says the entire Miracles Park is completely accessible with a rubberized field and playground surface on both sides. Over the past year they’ve added a wheelchair swing along with bongos and a musical instrument in memory of two children who’ve passed away. Laura Ziemer says they’ve had amazing support from the community & are truly blessed by communities throughout Manitowoc County. She added they’re always looking for additional volunteers: go to miracleleaguelakeshore.com to learn of the opportunities.
