A La Crosse man is pleading guilty to federal charges for taking threatened turtles from Minnesota and shipping them to Florida. The U-S Attorney’s Office says 28-year-old Markos Diderrich entered a guilty plea to a felony Lacey Action violation for knowingly transporting illegally taken wildlife across state lines. Diderrich admitted to taking four Blandings turtles from the Weaver Dunes site in Minnesota in May of 2016, bringing them back to La Crosse and shipping them to a client in Tampa. He was also indicted on five misdemeanors for illegally taking and selling Eastern tiger and blue-spotted salamanders without permits in Wisconsin. Diderrich will be sentenced September 8th in federal court in Madison.
