The Milwaukee Health Department has posted signs closing several beaches along the lakefront. In some cases, people have ignored the signs warning about E. coli in the water while wading into Lake Michigan. The health department says the presence of dangerous bacteria has become much worse in recent years. McKinley and South Shore beaches were shut down Monday. Health officials say they work with the Milwaukee County Parks Department to determine where the warning signs should be placed, but people still get in the water and say they didn’t notice the warnings.
